we use VPNs for many purposes in our day to day life. Though we use VPNs,  most of us don't know about what actually VPN does. Let us see what is a VPN, its' usage and both advantages and disadvantages.

What is a VPN?

A VPN extends a private network across a public network. It enables users to receive and send data across public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network. a VPN is a security solution which grants users private and secure access to the internet. It redirects data through an anonymous server designed to hide the sensitive information about the user. Also, VPN can unlock content all over the world.

What is the usage of the VPN?

Most of VPN users use VPN to gain access to entertainment content. If you live in one country and want to access content that is only available to users in another country (TV shows, Youtube videos, music, and films), you can use a VPN to avoid such restrictions.

Also, people use VPN to access the internet. Because VPN can be used to protect users personal information when traveling and connecting to unknown public Wi-Fi networks in airports, bus stops, and restaurants. Not only that but also people use VPN services when government restrictions that are aimed at censoring people’s access to information and services over the internet.

How Does a VPN Work?

Data is transmitted from the user machine to a point in VPN network. The VPN point encrypts user data and sends it through the internet. In another point, VPN network decrypts your data and sends it to the appropriate internet resource, such as a web server, an email server.

Then the internet resource sends data back to a point in VPN network, where these data encrypted. That encrypted data is sent through the internet to another point in VPN network. It decrypts the data and sends it back to the users machine.

Advantages of VPN

  • VPN works with all applications.
  • It provides navigation privacy to users.
  • VPN skips geolocation restrictions.
  • Unblocks websites and filters.
  • Provide more security.
  • VPN provides data encryption facility.

 Disadvantages of VPN
  • Using VPN might be illegal in your country.
  • It might add more cost to your network connection.
  • It might be difficult to set up for business users.
  • The VPN service might monitor your activity and use your data.
  • You might have performance issues while using the private network.
